The Cleveland Indians went through several names after joining the American League in 1901. Starting as the Bluebirds for a season, then the Broncos, they were the Naps until 1914 until finally settling on the Indians for Louis Sockalexis, a Native American player. The team currently play at Progressive Field in the American League Central Division and their colors are red, navy blue and white.
The Indians have had limited success in the World Series with just two wins. The first came in 1920 when they beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 5-2, and the second in 1948 when they took down the Boston Braves. Recent years have seen some success with several Division titles and a win in the 2016 American League Championship Series. After beating the Toronto Blue Jays, the Tribe lost the World Series to the Chicago Cubs. Fans are hoping the drought will be over soon. Wahoo!
Kansas City Royals have been in the American League around 50 years having joined in 1969 after the Athletics moved to Oakland. Their name comes from a horse and rodeo show held yearly in Kansas City, the American Royal. They presently play at the Kauffman Stadium in the American League Central Division and their colors are royal blue, gold, powder blue and white.
The team did well from the start winning three Division titles in the late 1970s and reaching their first World Series in 1980, although they eventually lost to the Philadelphia Phillies in six games. After beating the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL Pennant they scored their first World Series win in 1985 against the St Louis Cardinals with an amazing 11-0 in Game 7. They reached the Finals again in 2014 but lost to the Baltimore Orioles before scoring their second title a year later against the New York Mets.
